in Europe and the U.S.: Gender
and Class Perspectives ». The Conference will be held on April
28-29, 2015, at the Institut de Sociologie, Université Libre de Bruxelles,
Avenue Jeanne 44, Brussels, Belgium.
The objectives of this conference are twofold: (i) to share knowledge about US and European governments’ immigration policies and their impact on their societies; and (ii) to stimulate and promote dialogue between European and US scholars, and policy experts on different aspects of international migration. The two-day conference will be held in English and French and consists of 5 sessions around the following topics: politics of ethnicity in immigration policy, refugee and asylum policy, irregular immigration, skilled migration, and attitudes toward immigrants and immigration. The gendered and economic dimensions and the comparison between Europe and the United States will receive special attention. We want particularly to highlight gender and class inequality in international migration processes.
The conference is organized by the Center for Comparative Studies (CCIS) of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), l’Institut Wallon de l’Evaluation, de la Prospective et de la Statistique (IWEPS) and the research center METICES of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
